Ev fidgeted in his chair and wrung his hands. Liam’s mouth was set in a tight line. Jackson’s stiff shoulders were hiked up to his ears. They appeared like they were preparing for the worst.
My heart stumbled in my chest and I reached across the table and enveloped both Ev’s hands with one of mine. “I would never leave you. You’re my family. Honey, you know that.” I caressed Ev’s fingers with my thumb.
“But, Wade…” Ev blinked rapidly and linked his fingers with mine. “You’re not made for long-distance. I know you. You want your important people close.”
“Exactly.”
“So how are you going to solve this problem?” Jackson asked. Ever the worrier.
I told them how Preston and Sawyer were going back only to pack up their lives and live here with me. How we were planning to give this thing between us a serious go.
They had questions, of course. I didn’t expect anything else.
“All of you won’t fit on the boat,” Jackson said.
