His hand pauses a moment before continuing his caresses. “Yes.”

I’d like to go with him, I’d like to see him when his eyes shine with the joy of being home and maybe also to meet his parents. I’d like him to take me to see his childhood haunts and listen to stories about his past. I’d like to make those places mine and catch their essence, to have something to share with him once we’re back in the States, something that’s mine, too, not just his. Something that’s ours.

Please, tell me I haven’t just made the mistake I think I have. He says I’m driving him crazy, but it isn’t like he doesn’t have the same effect on me, too.

“When do you leave?” I ask, trying not to think too much about how mushy I’ve become.

“In a couple days.”

“Me, too.”
