Then the stranger pulled back, and his eyes met Noah’s again. “That was quite enjoyable, boy. But now you should forget it ever happened. You never met me, I was never here, none of this happened. Goodbye.” Noah could feel his mind growing hazy. He struggled to cling to his memories, but his thoughts became a muddled churn of confusion. He closed his eyes tightly, seeking to remember…to remember…to remember what?
Noah blinked his eyes open slowly, feeling confused.
“Do you remember?” Gabe’s voice pulled Noah back to the present, and he nodded.
“Yes.” Noah shivered, even though the cold was no longer physically with him.
“What did he say?”
“Not much. He said something about not understanding why you hang out with children and scum, and not somebody refined like him. He asked if you’d bitten me and I told him no. He said he didn’t understand that either, and then he bit me. And then he told me to forget. That’s all.”
