Chapter 24

Having Gabe follow him everywhere wasn’t annoying at all, but it wasvery strange. Noah felt like he was suddenly some other person, some kind of celebrity or politician. When Gabe was merely walking at his side it didn’t feel so odd, but at every class, Gabe would hand him his bag and then peel off to wait outside the door, standing sentry there. It really did feel like having a bodyguard. Though Gabe was much more cheerful and personable than the stereotype of the stone-faced Secret Service agent.

He followed Noah home as well. On the first day Noah had expected Gabe to just go into his own apartment, but instead he stepped inside with Noah. At Noah’s puzzled look, he said, “By the time you have shouted for help, if indeed you can, and I have heard, and come from my room and across the hall to yours, it may be too late. I will stay with you.”

“Oh. Um…What about when I’m sleeping then?”
