Chapter 55

“Well, I feel like I’m about to be thrown in.”

“Yeah. But that turned out pretty well for Daniel, didn’t it? And what about those three dudes that King Nebucha…Nebucha—somebody tossed in the fire. They survived.”

“Yes, but Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were all obeying God. The way my dad will see this is we’re going against him.”

Bill put his hand on Frank’s knee and gave it an affectionate squeeze. “It’ll be okay. You’ll see. Just let me handle it.”

Frank hoped Bill would be right.

They pulled up in front of Frank’s house. Mrs. Bethune had already been busy with her spring planting. In addition to the tulips and daffodils that came back every spring, she had added hanging baskets of petunias and large pots of impatiens and begonias. Frank smiled. He’d never fully appreciated how hard his mother worked at making their home beautiful and welcoming. Now with the uncertainty of what lay ahead when Bill made the big reveal, Frank wondered if he’d ever experience it again.
