Just then Reverend Bethune burst through the door. “My Lord! Bill Billingsley in my living room,” he shouted, his exuberance completely unbridled.

He crossed the room in two strides. Bill and Frank stood up. Frank’s Dad shook Bill’s hand with both of his. “So good to meet you. I’m a big fan.” He continued to shake Bill’s hand vigorously.

Reverend Bethune turned to his son without releasing Bill. “Oh. Hello, Francis.”

Bill chuckled. “Francis?”

Frank looked sheepish and shrugged.

“My, but you’re a big man. Bigger in person than on TV,” Reverend Bethune went on.

“So, I’ve been told,” Bill said, smiling at Mrs. Bethune.

“Sit down, sit down. I want to hear all about this new adventure,” Frank’s father said.

They sat, Frank’s dad inserting himself between Frank and Bill. Frank moved to an armchair next to his mother. Phoebe followed and jumped on his lap.

“So, you’re a Patriot. That’s wonderful, but I was so hoping that you’d be drafted by the Lions.”
