Cameron and Mrs. Shaladi followed Reid through the house as he sought out every room that might have a drain and repeated the process. Every time they did, they heard that same hiss, and Cameron had to admit that the sound was chilling. He didn’t want to think about what it could mean. The lights flickering at odd intervals didn’t help the atmosphere either; Cameron kind of felt like a character in a bad horror movie. When they poured the boiling water down the sink, the hiss turned into a scream, and Ali jumped up and yelled.
“It’s just a weird noise,” Cameron told the boy. “It’s plumbing. It does stuff like that.”
Reid met his eyes, and Cameron knew that the scream was not a normal part of this process.
