And if this deal went bad in a hurry because they could no longer communicate with each other, it would be his fault. “Okay,” Dakota responded quickly. He wisely left it at that, for fear of sounding irritated or defiant. He had a really bad feeling about this, but thanks to his own idiocy, he had no one to tell.

All he could do now was hope everything worked out for the best, and, if it did, try to come up with ways to salvage their relationship after everything was over.
