Chapter 12

The slam of the door behind both his and Andrewe’s entrance was almost childlike in its temper. Andrewe walked to the bed and dropped onto it without even bothering to remove his slippers. Then he hoisted himself backwards until he was sitting with his back against the padded headboard and his feet on the linen.

Emmett held back the rebuke that flew to his tongue but frowned at the outrage of dirty shoes on expensive property.

“Why?” Andrewe’s word was a pout.

Emmett ignored the question, choosing instead to walk to the window and stare in awe at the yard below them. Even in the grip of winter the grounds foretold an impending magnificence.

“Emmett,” Andrewe growled. “Answer me the why of your denial. The view will keep.”

Emmett turned, holding back a smile at Andrewe’s tone. “You have yet to tell me of what you want or why you want it. One cannot agree to something that one doesn’t know.”
