Chapter 13

Emmett took a breath and blew it out slowly. “There is a boy…”

Andrewe tsked and looked up in distaste. “Why is there always a boy with you shipmen?”

Emmett flushed. “It’s not…I mean, he’s not…we’re not…” Emmett sat up and smoothed a hand over his hair. “He’s a friend, your Highness.”

“Mm,” Andrewe looked at his nails in disinterest. “Then why should I care of this boy?” He lifted his eyes and held Emmett’s gaze with a cold stare. “You need no other friends than me.”

“I cannot…I will not leave Aleyn alone on the ship.”

Andrewe sighed. “Oh, good God, yes. Aleyn. The littlest of the ship’s rats. And what pray tell would you have me do with a boy too clumsy to keep control of his own feet?”

Emmett shook his head. “I am unsure. He’s very good with horses—”

“Oh, no doubt.” Andrewe rolled his eyes. “He made that quite obvious.”
