Chapter 12

Oliver caught Boyd’s look and his smile grew. “It’s kind of cool that you offered me the ride even when I told you that you had no chance in hell of getting what you were looking for.”

From the corner of his eye, Boyd watched Oliver slide his hand from the seat to the knee of his jeans and fiddle with the edge of a tear. “And you haven’t even tried to just take it, so that’s pretty decent.”

Boyd smirked and forced himself to watch the road. “Of course not. I was waiting to get you right in the middle of the desert first. There’s less of a chance you can get away then.” He laughed when a soft ball of napkin suddenly bounced off his right temple. “Hey! Pick that up. No garbage in the car, damn it!”
