Chapter 32

“The Estranged underground. News travels.”

“Not everywhere.”

“Everywhere that counts.”

“I was in University five years ago,” Eddie deadpanned. “Learning how to hit on pretty young men and seeing how much I could drink without throwing up.”

Well, that answered the rock question, at any rate. A richie. Just what he needed. They were one-tenth of one percent of the leftover population, and one of them had to stroll onto Exile for the love of all things…

Kaeva ran a hand over his face. “How did you get through University without getting processed?”

Eddie shrugged. “I don’t talk about it. My family doesn’t talk about it. And thankfully, I don’t shoot fireballs out of my ass, so it’s not that hard to hide.” He tilted his head. “That was a joke though, right? There aren’t really Estranged who can do that, are there?”

Worse than a richie: Kaeva was dealing with an innocent. “What do you do, then?”

“I’m a Scanner. It’s what I call myself. Not official or anything.”
