“Can you tell us about how you came to Exile?”
Eddie took a deep breath and for the next few minutes, Kaeva listened to Eddie speak of cab rides, aborted airplane trips, inheritances, bicycles, boats, and hallucinations. It certainly filled in the gaps from the tale he’d started to pester Kaeva with last night after supper.
“That’s more or less it,” Eddie said when he was done.
“Truth,” Spring announced.
“Rivet,” Oberon said. “I remember him.”
“As do I,” Etienne said. “Good man.”
“Not an island man, though,” Lundrell added.
“It would seem not,” Oberon said.
“So people can leave once they arrive, then?” Eddie asked.
“Of course,” Etienne said. “There are many options.”
“Which we’ll cover in a moment,” Calliope said. “What of your parents, Eddie?”
He hesitated. “How, um, truthful am I allowed to be, exactly?”
“Entirely, we hope,” Lake answered.
