After a moment of silence, Spring said, “Truth.”
“Do you wish to take the needle?” Krue asked, and a rock plummeted into Kaeva’s guts. He didn’t really know why. It wasn’t like he hadn’t contemplated the option himself quite seriously and, if Eddie thought it over and took it, life would return to its version of normal. No more nervous babbling. No more nearly burning down the cabin trying to make breakfast. No more awkward reading sessions. It’d only been a handful of days, and only one day with the kid, himself, and Kaeva’s entire life was upside down. He should be so lucky if Eddie shuffled off this mortal coil sooner rather than later.
Bile rose in Kaeva’s throat, and he choked it down.
“What do you mean?” Eddie asked.
