Chapter 51

“We’ve got our orders,” Townsend said.

“They don’t make any sense.” Ben slapped his hand against the wall. “This is the United States. We don’t declare human beings to be DOD assets, for crying out loud. We have a constitution. We have a bill of rights. We have laws.”

“I thought you didn’t want Lennon to go to New York?” Townsend’s hand shook, but his voice was steady.

Ben pinched the bridge of his nose. “Yeah. I don’t. I don’t want him enslaved by the DOD either. First of all we both know he’s not going to do it. He’s not going to cooperate, he’s going to blow up the lab or find other ways to make a mess. You know him as well as I do.”
