Chapter 52

Ben came to get him at seven. Lennon had completely lost track of time. He hadn’t had anything to eat, or drink for that matter. He didn’t mind. “Time to go home?”

Ben tugged at his collar. He wouldn’t meet Lennon’s eyes. “Actually, Townsend wants to meet at Bubble.”

Lennon pursed his lips, thinking. “If I told you that Kaden can bite me, what would you say?”

That, at least, got a little bit of a grin out of Ben. “Well, I’d have to say something along the lines of ‘I’ll cut his throat if he tries,’ but in all seriousness, we’ve got something to talk about. And it’s kind of important. So we should probably go.”

Lennon studied Ben’s face. He could see the shadow in Ben’s brown eyes, and the little creases on his forehead. Ben didn’t want to have this conversation. Well, that was fine. Lennon would go along and see what they had to say, and then he would learn what the hell was going on.
