Chapter 33

“There’s a party tomorrow night. I…forgot…” Parker cleared his throat. “I forgot to mention it. But William’s going to rent you a tux. And the guys will all be there so at least you’ll know somebody other than just me. So…yeah.” John turned his head and stared at the closed door when something brushed it from the other side. The swipe of a hand? “I just…well, I just didn’t want you to be caught off guard, I guess.”

With stealth that The Cat would have approved of, John moved towards the door. He reached up, he rested his palm on it, and he thought about conflicting forces and polar opposites. He thought about karma and connection. He asked himself what the hell he even doing there. Why he was driving himself crazy over somebody else’s issues. Why he even cared.
