Chapter 25

“Good. You two are here just in time. I need recruits to help me,” she tells the pair. “Sandy, can you please peel potatoes? And Jonah, can you find the bag of carrots in the refrigerator and peel them?”

Both Jonah and Sandy agree, beginning their tasks.

As Jonah sits at the table with his carrots and peeler, busy at work, he says to Willa, “I didn’t see mother and Ricky in the living room after coming down from upstairs. Where are they now?”

“Outside. At the neighbor’s igloo. Ricky’s having a shirtless photo shoot.”

Jonah lets out a heavy sigh, shakes his head.

“No offense, you two, but I think your mother needs to see a shrink.” Sandy stands at Willa’s side. Both are near the stove, laboring.

“Tell us about it,” Willa says. “She’s obsessed with that man.”

“It’s clinical,” Sandy adds. “I’m afraid for her.”

Jonah chuckles. “Willa and I have been afraid for her since we were kids. One of these days she’ll end up being committed in a psych ward, damaged for life.”
