Rory and Blaise had spent a long few hours scouting the darkened tunnels that criss-crossed the space station, Blaise mapping as they went. No one had attacked them, especially not since the last attempt had ended so badly. Rory had caught sight of several bandits who would have no doubt attempted a hold up any other traveller along the roads. But they’d all hidden, drawing back into the shadows, when he’d ridden into sight.

The rest of the space station had looked much the same as what he’d already seen in the Core, if not worse. None of the station’s lifts were operational and none of the overhead lights were functional. Most of the buildings were abandoned, and they had windows and doors. The whole place was a mess.

The Legacy government would have to completely reconstruct at least sixty if not seventy percent of the station, he concluded.
