Chapter 18

With suspicion written on her face, Yuuki studied Ken for a long time. “It’s a lot more complicated than you’d think. Next time you’re with a guy, remember that. You’ll have a lot more power over him than he’ll probably admit to. But it’s nice. Being with a woman in pretty much every way possible—finding the best way to please her—I recommend it.”

“But you’d rather be gay.”

She scratched at the back of her head. “I’d rather be me. Happens to be the same thing.”

Kenna looked over at Yuuki and saw an almost saddened expression, not unlike the one Dakota wore when he was alone and didn’t know someone was watching. Loneliness. Mixed, maybe, with a sense of isolation from others. It could easily be from lacking a partner. Or loss. Or the talismans. Whatever the cause, it was something she recognized, and to an extent, understood. Ken was as much if not more removed from normal society. She couldn’t even have real friends or socialize without them being put at risk.
