“Yaliana?” the guard said.

“Gevery?”

“You escaped! I didn’t think you would make it this far.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence. Why aren’t you trying to capture me?”

“You’re my friend.” He raised his hands in apparent surrender.

“What about the other guard on duty?”

“Neither of us are about to stop you from getting to Ulissa, not after the boss went back on his word. Many of us are on your side after what he did.”

“You were right,” Yaliana admitted, her heart still aching from the fresh wound. “You were right to be wary of him, all this time.”

Gevery shook his head. “There isn’t time for right and not right with your girl in danger. Get going!”

“I need the key code.”

“They changed it this morning. I’ll let you in.” He keyed in his passcode, and the light on the door turned green before the door slid open.
