Head tilted back, he watched those rainbows twirl around the ceiling until he thought of something to retort with. He narrowed his eyes and looked at Josephine.
“You hypnotized me,” he said.
She held up a finger. “I suggestedsomething to you. I’m surprised your stubborn ass mind even took it. Y’know, in all my years, I’ve never known a bigger mule than you.”
“But…but I was fine,” Travis insisted. “Niko passed out. He—”
“You were most certainly notfine, human,” Niko said, eyes on the book in his lap. “You were farfrom fine.”
“Niko’s right,” Josephine agreed. “You did something in a few minutes that would’ve taken a dozen empaths hours. You think your body’s just built for that kind of power? You can’t do something like that and not expect consequences.”
