Chapter 35

“No. My parents weren’t pet people. Hell, a kid was too much responsibility for them. They weren’t good at looking after living things. I really can’t imagine my mother walking a dog or emptying a litter box.” Dustin shakes his head.

“So you never had any kind of pet the whole time you lived at home?” Ronan sounds shocked

“Nope. And then I moved into a college dorm, and pets weren’t allowed there either. I’ve never had a pet of my own,” Dustin admits.

“That’s kind of sad. I’m sorry, everyone should have a pet growing up. And you must like animals if you volunteer at an animal re-homing shelter.” Ronan turns off the main street and onto a road with a couple of motels, pulling into one with a vacancy sign.
