Chapter 37

The lights are on in the warehouse, so Dustin assumes there must be someone there, so he starts moving between the stacks of boxes. He’s walking when he suddenly hears something, movement

“Hello?” Dustin calls out.

“I don’t think anybody is here,” Ronan says, just as a very large and very vicious dog appears, growling.

“Oh shit,” Dustin says.

“Good doggy, sit,” Ronan commands.

The dog growls and lunges toward them.

“Run,” Ronan says.

Dustin doesn’t have to be told twice. He starts running, but he’s not quick enough, and he feels a searing pain in his leg as the dog bites down, knocking him off his feet.

Ronan draws his gun and fires into the air; the dog yelps and lets go long enough for Ronan to lean down and help Dustin to his feet. Then Ronan helps Dustin limp outside, and he shuts the door firmly behind them. The dog thumps into the door, clearly having shaken off its fear at the sound of the shot.

“Are you okay?” Ronan asks.
