Chapter 38

Dustin makes his way carefully to the sink. He can put weight on his leg, but it hurts. He holds onto the sink, hoping he won’t make himself look like a wuss, because Ronan is such a manly man, an ex-cop. An injury like this is probably nothing to him. Not that he’d admit to wanting to impress Ronan—but Dustin kind of wants to—at the very least he doesn’t want Ronan to think less of him.

Ronan asks “Are you ready?”

“Just do it. I know dog bites need disinfecting and everything.” Dustin holds on, looking ahead—all he can see is himself in the mirror, so he closes his eyes.

“I’m sorry, but this will really hurt.”

Ronan sprays something on his leg, and Dustin feels like his leg is on fire. He grits his teeth, holding in any sounds that might want to escape. It really does hurt.

“Okay, not much longer, I’m almost done,” Ronan says, doing something behind Dustin, and before Dustin knows it Ronan is smoothing a piece of gauze over the wound and taping it down.
