Chapter 68

“Not sure why, I just thought of a psychic as a peaceful hippie But then I read the police report about the marriage protest,” Chris says—at the same time, he signals someone and Charlotte’s body is covered and a gurney brought over to take her away.

Dustin hopes they take care of her, give her the kindness she didn’t have when she passed.

“That guy deserved it. I’m normally a peaceful guy, I swear. He was harassing this young couple; I could feel their despair. I had to do something, so I hit him,” Dustin admits.

“Good for you. It’s good knowing Ronan has some backup.” Chris looks pleased.

“I don’t need backup, and his job isn’t to fight.” Ronan doesn’t look at all happy at the suggestion.

Dustin isn’t sure why—at first he thinks maybe it’s some macho thing, Ronan just not liking the idea of needing another man’s help, but then Ronan glances at him, and there is a hint of fear in his eyes.

Like maybe he’s afraid of Dustin getting hurt.
