Chapter 79

“I don’t know what you mean,” Ronan lies, because Chris wasn’t supposed to know about Dustin. Ronan hadn’t said anything about him to Chris.

“Don’t try that with me, Ronan. I know you better than that. Which is why I knew, the minute I saw you two together, that something was going on. Am I wrong?” Chris asks.

“We slept together; it was nothing,” Ronan says, looking out of the car window to avoid eye contact.

“Don’t tell me it was nothing. I saw the way you looked at him, like he was something special. You were captivated,” Chris insists.

“It was just a fling that I shouldn’t have had while I was working,” Ronan says just as firmly.

“If it was just a fling, why have you been so miserable since Dustin left?” Chris asks.

“I’ve been in pain; I’ve been healing. I haven’t been miserable,” Ronan lies again.

“Bullshit. You cared about Dustin when he was here and you care about him now that he’s gone. Why’s it so hard for you to admit that?” Chris asks.
