Chapter 6

“I represent the attorneys for someone willing to pay a great deal for Mr. Trace’s opinion on an old book,” Karden said in a smooth, professional tone. “It would just be for one afternoon of his time.”

Daniel froze. That voice, he thought. Why is it so familiar?

Barely glancing at the card, Sury asked, “You’re a lawyer?”

Karden shook his head. “No, I just work for them. I’m a consultant…of sorts.” The devastating smile lighting the man’s face created an expression Daniel could only describe as…beautyWhat in the hell is wrong with me?he wondered as he choked back a small gasp.

“Daniel, why does this name look familiar?” Sury asked, handing the card to him.

Daniel forced himself to pull his gaze away to the card.
