As Frank hurried away, Karden asked, “So you know your neighbors pretty well?”

“You could say that,” Daniel answered evenly.

“That’s nice,” Karden said. “Tough to get to know people these days.” Daniel continued to stare in stony silence. Undaunted, Karden leaned back in his chair. His expression gave Daniel the feeling he was being examined…thoroughly. “Something tells me you and I will get to know each other pretty well,” he said. Daniel fought the returning blush creeping to his cheeks and struggled to keep his own face as neutral as possible. “You can trust me,” Karden said simply.
