Chapter 31

“Hi there,” she said, extending her hand. “You must be either Gordy or Leo. I’ve been expecting you.”

When Gordy jumped in and began to enthusiastically praise her over the zoo, talking at a rate of what Leo was sure was a thousand words a minute while Mandy stood there, seemingly unable to do much more than beam, he was reminded of the first time he’d met Gordy—how alarming those eyes could be if one hadn’t seen them before and how charming the smile. Gordy had a remarkable way of enchanting people, and Leo couldn’t tell if it was just nature, or overt effort. Even now, at that moment, was the way that Gordy was still clinging to her hand just an oversight, or an intentional flirt?
