Chapter 14

“Well, we’ll be running every day, so you can get used to that part. But hopefully the police won’t be around every day.” Brenton picks up his suitcase, gathering his keys and cell phone.

They leave his apartment together, and Brenton is putting his suitcase into his car’s trunk when Zeke calls his name.

“What?” Brenton asks.

“Come here.” Brenton can’t read anything from Zeke’s voice.

Brenton walks to where Zeke’s standing at the front of the car, and that’s when he sees the envelope. Just like the other one, it’s large and white. Brenton tries to convince himself that it won’t be the same, that this time, it’ll just be some flyer left on his car.

“We should call the cops,” Zeke says.

“They can exclude my prints if it is a photo.” Panic makes him sound urgent, hoping it’s not.
