“It’s not going to be that easy. You don’t even know where he is.”


“I know. But I know how to find him.”


Michelle’s lips thinned. “I know what you’re suggesting. It’s not a good idea.”


“It’s the only thing that’ll work. Foster’s got me on the defensive right now, and that’s not going to change unless we do something to draw him out.”


They shuffled forward in the line. Jesse didn’t want to have this conversation right now, but Michelle pressed forward, oblivious to anybody who might be listening. “You won’t be able to do it.”


“Because you’re not going to let me?”


Michelle made a sound that was almost like a laugh. “Because the only way to attract Foster’s attention is to do something that harms the dimension. You won’t be able to do that. You won’t even be able to abide anybody else doing that.”


Jesse absently rubbed his chest. He didn’t have to ask Michelle to elaborate. He still felt the twinge from the tear in Paris. “There are other options.”
