“I’m guessing she doesn’t know you planned on checking out the cathedral tonight,” he said as they slipped inside the front seat of Gideon’s Miata.


Jesse waited until Gideon pulled out of the garage before answering. “I just told her I was going to follow up on Carly’s comment. She doesn’t like the fact that she can’t sense him and figure out where he is.” He fiddled with the radio for a moment. “Carly offered to help today.”


Gideon snorted. “Yeah, because a vengeful woman in traction is always helpful to have in a fight.”


“That’s essentially what I said, though I think a bit more gently. She seemed…hurt that I didn’t want to accept her help. But I have the feeling that we might have to get used to having her around town.”


“Why?” Gideon cast a curious glance sideways. “She’s not even from Chicago.”


He blinked. “You’re kidding me. The girl makes porcupines look cuddly.”
