Chapter 66

A twinge in his stomach stopped Jesse short. It felt like somebody had pinched him. Was that the first sign or just a random ache?

The twinge was followed by what felt like a cramp. Jesse’s mouth ran dry, his tongue swelling against his teeth. The third bolt of pain was almost enough to send him to his knees, but the discomfort was quickly dulled by fury. He gripped the hurlbat without consideration for the sharp edges biting into his palms. He knew the dimension hadn’t been opened yet, because it didn’t feel like there was a pulsing gash right through his midsection.

Instead of teleporting to the cemetery, he rushed through the kitchen and down the hall to the library. By the time he pushed the door open, the room was empty and the pain in his chest was spreading through his skin and up behind his eyes.
