He wasn’t so sure he was either anymore. Though he was half-hard with excitement at the prospect of finding out.

The bird demon who’d charged first must have been a sentry of sorts because the entryway was devoid of any other life. The door clicked quietly shut behind them, leaving them in near total blackness. Gideon swung his gaze around, listening for which direction the others were located, then realized he didn’t know if Jesse could do the same.

“So do you have heightened senses, too?” he whispered. “Can you hear or smell them in here?”

“No. Forget hearing or smelling. I can barely see, it’s so dark.” Jesse paused for a moment, before adding, “I can sense when something is close to me. I know when you’re moving, even when I can’t see you. But that’s it.”

Gideon smiled, though he knew now Jesse couldn’t see him. “You could tell when I was moving before. That’s what happens when you fixate on someone.”
