Chapter 70

They weren’t getting smarter. This one fell for the same snapping of the neck trick. It fell to his feet in a heap of slippery feathers and dark blood.

“Bloody hell. There’s got to be…” Jesse swung wide with the sword and another demon fell from the air. “At least…” That demon’s partner went next, its death-cry making Gideon’s ears ring. The sound echoed in his skull, making his bones vibrate, and he hoped the rest of the nest wouldn’t respond in kind. “…two dozen of these things.”

Gideon thought that was conservative. Becoming a Guardian had obviously impaired Jesse’s ability to count.

The next two were distracted by throwing one of their dead mates at their heads. The two after that proved the things could fly with only one arm/wing. Gideon had to chase them down to a corner of the warehouse in order to snatch them out of the air and crush their skulls together.

It was the pair after that Gideon actually worried about.
