Chapter 79

Jesse didn’t know what to expect, but he wasn’t quite prepared to see JT’s solid form begin to waver. He wasn’t fading. He wasn’t disappearing. He just seemed to be melting into the world around him. Jesse couldn’t keep his gaze trained on his counterpart, but he was afraid to look away, too. He saw the trees on the other side of JT, but he wasn’t sure what dimension he was looking at. And then, JT was solid again. Like nothing had happened. It wasn’t even a blink of an eye. It was faster than thought.

“Your turn.”

“You’re sure this is safe?”

“I’m sure.”

Jesse’s eyes darted around the park, but they were still alone in their area. He didn’t know what would happen if somebody interrupted him, and he didn’t want to know. Trusting that JT wouldn’t let anything happen to him, he took several deep breaths and tried to clear his mind, discarding fear, anxiety, and thoughts of everything except the task at hand.

“Don’t close your eyes,” JT murmured.
