Chogan knows that Ricky has asked Jayden out once already, and one of the reasons he was considering it, well, it sounded like it was because he thought he couldn’t have Eli.
“What did I say about teasing?” Joshua asks.
“Sorry, Dad,” Elijah says, sounding like a schoolboy.
“He might have found good information,” Jayden says defensively.
“Let’s hope so,” Joshua says.
“I need a coffee,” Chogan says, and Jayden looks grateful for the subject change.
Joshua flags down a waiter, and they all order, talking quietly about the case and the little they’ve found while they wait for it.
“Are you still getting a weird vibe from the place?” Chogan asks Jayden just after their drinks have been served.
“Yeah. I’m feeling…tense? I’m not sure that’s the right word to describe it. But it’s more than not running enough. I feel on edge, like my body’s on high alert, ready for something to happen at any moment,” Jayden says, sounding frustrated.
