Chapter 33

“Drew a map. Showed the police. They wouldn’t go. They said I was a liar. I don’t lie. I saw it, saw him. He’s tied to a tree. He’s lonely. I visit him sometimes.” Eddy pulls a crumpled piece of paper out of his pocket and shoves it into Joshua’s hand. It’s dirty, but it’s clearly a quite well-drawn map of the local forest.

Chogan wonders what’s wrong with Eddy, what has him acting like this, if he had a life before his mind ran away from him. He’s a skilled artist, but that’s going to waste.

“Thank you, Eddy. We’ll go visit him and tell the police you didn’t lie,” Joshua promises.

“I didn’t hurt him. I don’t hurt people. They tell me to sometimes, but I don’t.” Eddy shakes his head.

“We believe you,” Jayden says softly.

“I have to…it’s my bus.” Eddy wonders off, even though no bus has pulled up. He just walks about ten steps away and sits on the ground.

“Well, this could be a good lead, or it could all be in his head,” Joshua says.
