“Galen!”

Galen smiled, but it was fleeting. Then he grunted. He was obviously in pain.

“I’m sorry.”

“What?”

“I’m sorry I never told you about your birth mother—”

“I don’t care about that,” Dion cut Galen off midsentence. “Can you get up? We can escape somehow.”

Galen shook his head. “It’s too late for me.”

Dion was stunned. “I don’t understand.”

“I can feel my magic slipping away, baby.”

“No! That’s not happening. Let me take you home, and—”

Dion was unable to complete his statement because Odon abruptly appeared right in front of him. He knew what that meant.

“I’m here for Galen.”

“Odon, can’t you do something—”

“Everything happens for a reason.”

“But Galen is a cupid,” Dion protested. “He’s powerful enough—”
