Chapter 25

“Fire-lions are not common, as I believe I’ve mentioned. But when I was young there was a small, close-knit community of them here in the city. There was a small temple to She-of-Flame, even. All my kin went there, and some humans and others did as well. One of the most precious jewels of that temple was the children’s choir which the high priest conducted. He was a gifted musician, and a friend of my parents. A friend of mine, or so I thought. I was eight, and had just learned to take human form, when I began to sing in the choir.”
