Kelwyn managed to draw in enough breath to say, “I know I had to, and they were bandits and all, but I still keep thinking about it. The undead were easier, but even then…” He sighed. “I’m undead too, you know? Maybe they felt it, getting hacked up like that.” A faint shudder ran through him.
“I’m so sorry,” said Harun.
“Ain’t your fault. But I think it’d be good to have peace for a while. No necromancers or evil priests or crazy vampires.” He paused and somehow found a little laugh. “‘Cept me, of course. That’d be nice.”
“Yes. Peace would be good,” said Harun gently. “I think when we return we should speak to the queen, then.”
“Yeah.”
Harun’s arms tightened around Kelwyn. “I am very glad you’re not harmed,” he said against the top of Kelwyn’s head.
