Chapter 15

Marjorie leaned in and gave them both a cheek kiss.

“Enjoy your bath,” she said. “And tell the children I said hello.”

By the time they had said goodbye to Marjorie, it was their turn in line. Howard hurriedly began to unload things, and Jason followed suit. Howard wanted to ask Jason about why he had committed them to the barbeque, but he would wait until they were in the car. When the cashier announced the total, Howard went to pull out his wallet.

Jason looked at him and said, “If you don’t mind. I um…”

“Of course,” Howard said. “I planned on buying. You bought kayaks, and all the things needed to use them. I owe you quite a few dinners.”
