Chapter 30

“I think we’ll need to beef up patrols on Burnt Mountain,” Dane said. “We are still losing far too many deer.”

“Maybe because there are too many werewolves,” Andrea blurted out. No one seemed to even hear her voice above the din of conversation. She rose to say more, but never got a chance.

Before Andrea could say another word, her mother reappeared in front of her, screaming in agony as blood pooled around her feet. As she began to fall, Andrea instinctively reached out to grab her, only to find empty space. Her balance offset, she didn’t stop moving forward until she hit the ground on her knees. The hall was silent long enough for her to realize they were all looking at her, then they erupted in laughter.

“Andrea Nissa Tanus.” Dane spat out her name like it was rancid meat. “Control yourself.”
