Chapter 47

Gavin nudged his horse’s flanks until he was beside Josh.

“Looks like you twisted your ankle.”

“I’m fine. Just point me in the direction of the parking lot. I’ll manage.”

Josh tried to even out his stance without putting any additional weight on his leg. He didn’t want to give Gavin the wrong idea. Though, exactly what the right idea was, he wasn’t sure. He just knew the longer he was around Gavin, the greater the likelihood that he would make a fool of himself.

“You sure you don’t want a ride?” Gavin asked. When Josh didn’t move, he added, “I’m Gavin Wiles, the new park ranger. It’s kind of my job to make sure no one gets left to the wolves.”

Josh blanched even though Gavin laughed at his own joke.

“Come on.” Gavin extended his hand. “I don’t bite, I promise.”
