Chapter 25

“Yeah, you will be. Dad may insist on driving, but I’m going with you to carry the cases. There is snow and black ice on the road and in that parking lot. I went out for the beer and liquor earlier. I saw it, and it has to be worse now that the sun has set.” Bobby was dead serious, and his mom knew it.

Bobby’s dad walked into the room mid conversation. “You can’t mother the world, son. One day something is going to happen over which you have no control. You need to learn to let go.”

“I’m going with you.” Bobby reiterated. I have learned to let go. I didn’t try to find Keith. I let go of the best thing in my life. Bobby shrugged his shoulders as if the act itself would rid him of the memory. “Get the keys, Dad. Let’s go before it gets any worse. Dress warmly. It’s only five degrees outside.”

His mother put on her boots and coat while his father went out to warm up the car. “You know that deathtrap of yours needs new tires,” he said to his mother.
