Chapter 29

Friday

Cecily and Beatrice showed up at noon and consulted with the nutritionist. Mark found out something else about Reggie. He paid Beatrice her entire former salary as a pension and for a Medicare Advantage plan at the Platinum level. Reggie took care of those he loved.

“Beatrice raised me,” he whispered to Mark. “I’m a decent human being because of Beatrice.”

It seemed neither Beatrice nor her niece had any problem with gay people and Cecily agreed to start work as soon as one of them left the hospital.

After they had left the room, Mark decided it was time to have the discussion with Reggie he was going to have on Sunday night.

“Can we talk?” They were sitting in their chairs having finished lunch.

“Sure…about what?

“About what I wanted to tell you on Sunday night…” Mark was wiggling in his seat. Reggie sat, ready to listen. “I know we were going to wait until we got home, but I need to tell you now.”

“Shoot.”
