Chapter 32

Once they were both on the couch, Guy curled against his side. Dane had no choice but to put his arm around him as Guy rested his head against Dane’s chest. They used to watch television like that, and Guy would always fall asleep during the nightly news. Something inside of Dane’s chest fluttered—Guy would remember it, too.

“What would it take for you to be okay with this? With us?”

Dane studied the top of Guy’s head. “I think I would need to be somebody else.”

“That won’t do. Because I want you.”

“I don’t know if I can just pretend the last year didn’t happen. You were in a relationship with somebody else. And I’ve been trying to put everything back together.”

Guy put his hand against Dane’s stomach. “We don’t have to pretend it never happened. That’s not what I want either.”

“What I’m saying is….I don’t think we can just go back to the way things were before.”

“Tell me what you want to go back to, Dane. I’ll do it for you.”
