Chapter 10

Amanda had texted him before she went to Whiteport to pick Levi up. Madoc wanted to be the one to pick him up, every bone in his body told him he should be the one to pick Levi up, to drive him home, to make sure he was okay.

But Levi had asked Amanda. He hadn’t been in touch since the birthday letter, and while his cell number might work again now that he was home, Madoc wouldn’t know what to say if he were to call.

What could he say?

Argh. He sat on the sofa in the living room and cradled his head. Out, he needed to get out of here. He grabbed a light jacket and locked the door behind him.

Had he dared to, he’d have called Amanda to see if everything had gone well; to make sure Levi was all right. Perhaps he could go to Courtland again.

He’d already gone to see her twice since she’d called him a coward. Never, during his forty-two years in this town, had he visited Courtland as many times in one month.
