Chapter 11

“I sure am.” His hazel eyes swept over Madoc’s face, the hurt in them stole Madoc’s breath. All he’d wanted was for Levi to have a good life, to achieve his dreams. He’d never meant to cause him harm. Whatever pain the breakup caused, it should’ve passed by now.

It hadn’t for Madoc, but he counted on living with the pain for the rest of his life.

“Are you on a date?” Levi directed the question to Olivia.

“We’re having pizza.” She bounced and grinned at Levi.

“Pineapple, right?”

She nodded and giggled.

He remembered. They’d ordered pizza one night when they’d been babysitting shortly before the breakup, and Olivia had made a big deal about getting pineapple. Apparently, Richard didn’t like them and since Olivia didn’t eat an entire pizza herself, she had to share with Richard and Lisa, so no pineapple.

“Thank you for the…erm…the birthday letter.” Madoc wanted to reach out and touch Levi; wanted to hug him.

Levi smiled, but it was strained.
